Primary School Curriculum

It is applied by integrating the Ontario English Language Arts program and the curriculum determined by the Ministry of National Education during the primary school period. Thanks to this integration, students grow up as multilingual individuals, with a holistic educational approach, by assimilating cultural and intercultural principles and values, without sacrificing their right to be a child, while being nourished by the sense of curiosity inherent in their nature.

Students, led by teachers who are experts in their fields and have high academic qualifications; have the necessary confidence to explore new roles, ideas and strategies in the learning process, and acquire the necessary knowledge to explore issues of universal relevance and importance.

Keystone Schools encourages students to acquire the skill of resilience, which is the secret to success now and in the future in a rapidly changing and evolving world. It contributes to the development of self-confident individuals who speak English at the native language level. Keystone Schools determines the English level of students who will come to intermediate classes from other schools, and in cases where support is required, students are directed to summer school and weekend courses opened by the school.

While French lessons continue to increase with the increase in class levels, an environment is prepared for students to practice French during the hours inside and outside the school.

While enjoying reading, at Kilittaşı Primary School, students contribute to their personal development based on what they read and learn to analyze what they read. They graduate from primary school as native speakers of English, who adopt mathematical thinking and interdisciplinary association as a principle.

National Courses

In primary school 1,2,3 and 4th grades, French lessons are given as 2 lessons per week. In primary school, our students can understand the questions asked and the instructions given in French. Develops vocabulary for each theme and builds simple sentences with these words. At the same time, she writes down the words and sentences she learned. Understands a short paragraph read and answers questions in simple sentences, both orally and in writing. All subjects are taught with song, game, drama technique.

When they finish primary school, our students begin to acquire the four basic skills of this language, namely speaking, writing, reading and listening, and they form the necessary infrastructure for the Delf / Dalf exam they will attend next year. When they come to the 5th grade, they speak French fluently at the end of the 5th grade with the French Language Intensive program.

Turkish lessons; listening, reading, comprehension, writing, visual reading and presentation sub-titles are covered in a spiral structure at every grade level. It is designed in accordance with PASS Theories and steps (sequence, simultaneity, attention, planning). In addition to contributing to their own development based on what they read, studies are carried out to make them individuals who enjoy reading in Turkish lessons, make sense of what they read, and analyze information in information sources such as newspapers, magazines, encyclopedias, and the internet in line with their needs with planned studies.

Mathematics lessons are taught according to the stages of comprehension, understanding and application in accordance with the characteristics of the concrete learning period. Students have the opportunity to develop their skills such as organizing information, mathematical thinking, reasoning and estimation, and problem solving.

The main purpose of mathematics lessons, which include numbers, geometry, measurement and data learning areas, is for students to combine mathematics with daily life and other disciplines, and to discover the connection of mathematics with all branches of science.

Science course is a data-based, systematic way to understand the world, based on observation and experimentation.
Keystone School students learn science lessons by examining the cause and effect of many tools, machines, systems and events that we use in our daily life. Our students learn to ask questions and solve problems, to make observations, to form hypotheses, to collect data and analyze, to reach conclusions and generalizations.

The purpose of Life Studies and social studies courses is to raise individuals who think, question, are principled, connect and try to explain all the details in life in the light of science.
It is very important for this age level that they first get to know themselves as an individual and then gain awareness of the environment and society. In order to ensure that the units covered within the framework of the inquiry are examined by students with concrete data, the information learned is associated with life by getting support from people and institutions such as trips, experts, non-governmental organizations.
With the prepared group studies and projects, students grow up as individuals who can reach information by analyzing various information sources correctly, can prepare presentations using scientific research steps, and have self-confidence to speak in front of the public.

International Courses

English at Keystone Schools; It is accepted as the mother tongue, such as Turkish. The language of communication at school is English. All branch courses are taught in English. Academic development, creativity and critical thinking, as well as the acquisition of important social skills and study habits are encouraged.
The language curriculum taught in our school in accordance with the Canadian education curriculum as of the first grade; verbal communication, reading, writing and media literacy. Students are encouraged to consciously monitor their thoughts as they learn. Acquisition-based language instruction enables students by the end of fourth grade to understand, respond to, create and appreciate a range of literary, informative and media texts.

In all primary grades, the program is designed to enable students to build a solid foundation in mathematics by combining and applying mathematical concepts in a variety of ways, in line with the Canadian program. To support this process, its concepts across five branches are integrated with the Turkish National Education curriculum and mathematics is associated with real-life situations. By the end of fourth grade, students grasp numbers, operations, measurement, geometry and spatial sense, patterning, algebra, data management, and probability.

In the science course, which is taught in harmony with the Canadian curriculum, students associate science and technology with society and the environment, develop the mental skills, strategies and habits necessary for scientific research, and comprehend the basic concepts of science and technology.

In the social studies course in primary school, students learn six concepts of social studies thought. Students gain a global perspective and make sense of the world with their supra-disciplinary skills such as comprehension, cause and effect, continuity and change, patterns and tendencies, mutual relations, and perspective approaches.

Branch Courses

The Physical Education and Sports curriculum is based on a vision that will enable students to develop by providing mental and physical well-being that will benefit them throughout their lives. In this context, the curriculum helps students understand what they will need to stay healthy and active throughout their lives and develop their capacity to lead a fulfilling, productive life.
At Keystone Schools, physical adequacy (flexibility, strength and cardiovascular capacity) tests are conducted and recorded at the beginning of each year. The progress of our students is followed up until the end of the year. The data obtained as a result of the observations are shared with the families through one-to-one interviews. The student is directed to the sports branch that is suitable for his/her ability and development.
At Keystone Schools, our students gain basic skills in floorball, gymnastics, basketball, volleyball, football, badminton, tennis, handball and athletics.
Our primary school students in grades 1, 2 and 3 improve their physical skills by playing games to comprehend basic movement skills. In physical education and sports classes, students discover the joy of movement, learn about their bodies, and develop physical and cognitive skills that will contribute to their health and development.
Physical education lessons at Kilittaşı Schools contribute to the development of our students as individuals suitable for the 21st century world by preparing appropriate games that will help our students reduce anti-social behaviors such as bullying and violence in all age groups from kindergarten to establishing safe and healthy relationships.

Due to the rapid development of technology and its spread to all parts of our lives, it is very important for the society to be technologically literate in the modern world.
Understanding technology and learning the right way to use it allows the student to catch up with the time and maintain a competitive advantage.
During the primary school years, students will achieve two main goals: learning about hardware and software and learning to code.
Where in the past coding was considered essential only to those in the computing field, it has quickly become a must-learn skill in all careers, including businesses, researchers and medicine. Coding also enables our students to think logically and critically through problems.
The Keystone Information Technologies Curriculum aims to enable our students to become individuals with high self-confidence in technology and to realize their own potential as 21st century citizens.

Art education is geared towards enjoyment and discovery at the elementary school level. Students are guided to explore different artistic materials through art elements and design principles. These materials are used in a wide variety and open-ended. In this level of education, there is no place for mass-produced studies that are identical to each other. At the elementary school level, students tend to be emotional and randomly generated. They are provided with opportunities that support these motives and allow their creativity. Students; discovers the world around them and works of art, realizes that people express their feelings, experiences and thoughts through art. At this level, various drawing, painting, printing and sculpture applications are made, and the use of application-oriented materials is taught. The different uses of art elements and design principles in various artists and art movements are explored. Students develop visual ideas using their imagination, observation and experience; they produce works of art that tell stories and reflect their thoughts, feelings and understandings using art elements and design principles.

Our music program, which we have created with the “whole child” approach, starts from kindergarten. Our students, who are introduced to concepts such as “beat”, “rhythm”, “tempo”, which are the most basic music concepts in kindergarten; At the same time, they start their musical education by doing vocal exercises that will develop their vocal cords and gain control over their voices.
Our students, who start their basic music education in primary school, first go over the basic knowledge they received in kindergarten. Afterwards, they get acquainted with basic music theory by learning concepts such as “duration”, “measure”, “value”, and recognize the places of notes on the stave. They learn to use the vocal scales and vocal cords, to sing in sync and to learn the basic dance steps of different cultures. They will have an idea about the most famous composers of music from various cultures and the compositions of these composers. Our students, who also start their ear and hearing training in this period, begin to distinguish the sounds they hear. While practicing with percussion instruments in the first grade, our students start to use the knowledge they have acquired on simple instruments (drums, melodica, ukulele, flute, etc.) in practice, starting from the second grade. Our main goals in music lessons until the 3rd grade in primary school are to provide our students with theoretical knowledge and general knowledge about music, to establish voice and ear control, and to develop more performance self-confidence.

Every individual in Keystone Schools takes great pleasure in celebrating the special days created to ensure unity and solidarity in the school and to create school spirit at the same time. With these special days, every development area of the students is supported and the students are offered the opportunity to get to know all cultures.

In each academic year, trips are organized to museums, art houses, science centers, animal shelters and environmental organizations where students can experience their knowledge and skills for the gains within the scope of the curriculum.

Keystone Schools provide diversified programs with after-school clubs to enhance our Students’ learning experiences and broaden their horizons.
Our students can improve themselves in clubs such as Zumba, STEM, exploring club, cooking and baking, football, drums, piano, violin, guitar, floorball, go, rhythmic gymnastic, pantomime and mask theater, learning with Lego.


1-DEMOCRACY: The subject of “democracy”, which is taught in our school throughout October, is integrated into all courses. Our primary school students listen to the democracy processes from their high school brothers and sisters. In the second week of October, class representatives are elected for the election of school presidents, the campaign processes of class representatives are made in the third week of October, and the election of school presidents becomes a feast of democracy. Our students learn the philosophy of democracy by experience.
2. INTERNATIONALITY: It is the most basic and most natural phenomenon of our school. During November, our students conduct research on different cultures and share them with their friends. Again, during one month, our students learn to look at these cultures with respect through the presentations made by their parents from different cultures.
3. LEADERSHIP: Leaders and leadership are discussed at our school throughout December. Research is done on leaders and various debates are held. In addition to the personality traits of the leaders, they also learn the life stories that make them different. Our students also enjoy presenting their projects that they want to lead to their friends.
4. COMMUNITY SERVICE: Community service is handled in a one-year process. Our biggest support in this regard is our school-parent union. Until now, we have worked with Tohum Autism Foundation and Koruncuk Foundation. Our main goal in projects like this one is to raise awareness in our students with the presentations made by our stakeholders, to enable them to accept differences and to create sensitivity towards what is happening around us. Every year, we meet the needs of students in need with a public school. Our students take their gifts to their peers, see their conditions, and experience the beauty of sharing and helping each other.
5. ADVENTURE: April is a month when we set sail for new adventures. Our students taste and enjoy adventures on adventure tracks, on the beach and in nature. Again in the spring, they take lessons of adapting to nature and surviving in nature in the company of trainers at the AKUT nature camp.
6. ENVIRONMENTALITY: Every student studying at our school is also an environmental activist. Many subjects such as the climate, the habitats of our animal friends, and environmental pollution are actively covered in our lessons. In May, our students draw attention to environmental cleanliness by cleaning one of the beaches of Istanbul.

Keystone students participate in debates in which opposing ideas are defended from the 4th grade. Our students learn to collect evidence, defend, control, organize and manage the process in stressful environments.
