Dear Children,

Ever since I could remember, my world of imagination has always been wide. My mom was working while I was in primary school, and as soon as she arrived home she would change her clothes and go into the kitchen to prepare delicious meals. I guess because I missed my mom a lot during the day, while she cooked delicious meals, I would tell her how I had spent my day at school. Besides sharing my day, I would also use my imagination and tell her made-up stories which I created in my mind. Every time, she would believe these stories were real or I would think that way. Following my imaginative story, I would tell her “mom this is just an imaginative story that I have made up in my mind.” It would make me so happy to see her amused reaction. My imagination and motivation to pursue my dreams are owed to my mom because she would listen to my figment stories with great enthusiasm.

Dear Friends,

When I was little, I always dreamed that I would become a writer one day. I would always read the books of famous authors and I would imagine becoming like one of them someday. That is why I got very excited when I got the writing a story assignment in school. Even though the assignment was just a few pages long, after completing the last page I was not satisfied and wanted to write more by trying to enrich my story with new ideas. In the meantime, I got accepted to John Hopkins University Talented Children’s Program. This was part of my other dream. I received education in Modern Fantasy Writing which helped me expand the content of my story.

Even though I never thought that a nine-year-old child’s book would be published, thanks to Keystone and Kilittaşı Schools, my dream came true and my book got published. Even though I am still young, when I look back I believe these steps were the first and biggest success in my life. I got power from these, and have built new dreams in which I plan to write new and extraordinary stories and books in the upcoming years. Likewise, the authors and books that have inspired me, I believe that someday my books and stories will inspire people as well.

March 31, 2020 – The following book, edited by UNICEF Children, aims to help children and families to understand better and cope with COVID-19. This book was a project developed by the mental health and psychosocial support reference group (IASC MHPSS RG). The project was supported by global, regional, and country-based experts from member agencies of IASC MHPSS RG, in addition to parents, caregivers, teachers, and children in 104 countries. It was designed as a global survey in Arabic, English, Italian, French, and Spanish to assess the mental health and psychosocial needs of children during the COVID-19 pandemic. Using the results of the questionnaire, the framework of the topics and the content to be discussed in the story were developed. The book continues to be shared through storytelling with children in many countries affected by COVID-19.
